After some pretty huge games on Wednesday night there’s barely time for the players to catch breath before being thrown back in today. Normally at this stage of the season most games take on added importance but this season is exceptionally tight. Any one of three teams could realistically win the title easily while any of the bottom five could find themselves in the relegation spot by the split. Today we have three games to look forward to. First up its….
Pohang v Seongnam
Pohang secured a vital 3pts away to Jeonnam on Wednesday night and coupled with Jeonbuk’s failure to beat Busan puts them 1pt from top. Their form of late hasn’t been able to match the consistency of the beginning of the season when they were winning for fun and they must surely be regretting not strengthening during either of the transfer windows. They recently lost at home to Seoul and that could be playing on their minds when they come out the tunnel tonight. Seongnam look a team transformed since Kim Hak Bum took over. They’ve gone from a team that looked content with a 0-0 point to one that looks, and more importantly, believes that they can win. They lost 2-1 at home to Seoul on Wednesday but in all honesty they should’ve come away from that one with a point losing the second goal in the final minute.
Prediction : 1-1
Seoul v Incheon
Just like Seoul v Pohang this match feels like its been played too many times this season already. It was only a few weeks back that Seoul embarrassed Incheon 5-1. That was an incredibly one-sided match and is unlikely to be repeated tonight. Seoul will be buoyed by the fact that they made it into the top 6 on Wednesday night and will want to make sure they remain there. They will also be strengthened by the return of Cha to the right hand side, I’m not going to say he’s ‘talismanic’ but he is a huge influence on Seoul’s attacks and definitely gives them something extra. Incheon seem to have lost the impetus they had before the Seoul defeat and although Ivo is still playing well they seem to be misfiring in front of goal again. They will also have the added threat of Kim’s reinvented Seongnam breathing down their necks.
Prediction : Seoul 2-0
Busan v Ulsan
The late kick-off tonight sees free-falling Busan take on nose-diving Ulsan. Both teams are having poor seasons and don’t seem like turning them around any time soon. Busan did manage a good result against table-topping Jeonbuk on Wednesday night coming from a goal down to gain a point but that result is 4 on the bounce without a victory for them although three of those games did come against tough opposition. They really need to get something from this game especially with both Incheon and Seongnam at tough away grounds. Ulsan dropped out of the promotion group on Wednesday night as they were easily beaten away at Suwon. They are safe from any kind of relegation battle so if they are still in the bottom six after the split will basically have a meaningless end to the season. They will probably look at Busan as a good team to get back on track against and will no doubt be looking for Kim Shin Wook to be the man to spearhead that turnaround.
Prediction Ulsan 2-1
