Saturday’s fixtures threw up some interesting and unexpected results along with the predictable 3 pts for Jeonbuk. Seoul managed to put three past ‘Suwon Slayers’ Jeonnam in a rather one-sided affair while Seongnam left it late at home to deny returning heroes Server Djeparov and Kim Tae Hwan a point at Tancheon. Amazingly those two results see Seoul and Seongnam in the top 6 for what must be the first time in a long time, albeit maybe only for 24hrs. Sunday sees us with 2 matches left to play as Gwangju host Pohang and Busan take on Incheon.
Gwangju v Pohang (2pm)
Hosts Gwangju got back to losing ways last weekend as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at “home” to Suwon. After such a bright start to the season they have had a torrid time of late, even losing to Daejeon in the FA Cup. They did manage to stem the flow of poor results recently with a 3-2 victory over Jeonnam but then Seoul’s 3-0 victory over them on Saturday may just have put that into perspective a little. No matter what happens in the other match on Sunday they will still remain in 10th such is the cushion that they built up in the first 5 matches but that can’t last forever and they really do need to start picking up points again. Pohang will be hoping to bounce back from two disappointing results in their last two matches especially losing a two goal lead at home to Seongnam , losing two goals in injury time in that match. On paper this one should be an easy call and you would expect Pohang to record the victory they need to hoist themselves up to third place and within 3 pts of second placed Suwon.
Prediction : Gwangju 1 Pohang 2
Busan v Incheon (2pm)
Second bottom Busan take on 9th placed Incheon in what has now become a regular bottom of the table clash for both teams of late. Busan with one victory in their last five league matches have looked terrible at home this season losing all five matches they have played at the Asiad Stadium this year. In contrast they have only lost two from five away games and they need to stop the rot before they find themselves in a real dogfight with Daejeon. Incheon on the other hand have won their last two matches with a 1-0 victory over Jeju United last week the highlight of their recent good run. I have watched them twice this season against superior opposition and they have impressed both times, with Kevin Oris beginning to look like the player they were all hoping he would be. A victory at Busan could see them climb at high as third depending on the size of the victory and scores elsewhere. That might just be all the motivation they need to go down South and put on a show.
Prediction : Busan 0 Incheon 1
