K-League One 2019 Week 16 – Previews & Predictions (Saturday Fixtures)

After last night’s emphatic 2-1 in Jeju, all bottom six eyes will be on the massive ‘six-pointer’ in Jinju tonight as Gyeongnam and Incheon battle with a victory for the latter finally dragging them off the foot of the table and into 11th place.Elsewhere ‘Supermatch’ victors Seoul head down to Daegu as they look to continue to keep pressure on the Hyundai Two at the top.

How the table looks after last night’s clash in Jeju.

First up on Saturday we have that huge match at the bottom of the table as Gyeongnam welcome Incheon United to town. The hosts drew 1-1 with fellow ‘bottom sixers’ Seongnam last weekend as an injury time Eder penalty canceled out an earlier strike from Luc. Gyeongnam have been fairly poor this season and while nobody expected them to improve on their incredible feats of 2018, not without Marcao, they have still underperformed and sit 10th in the table. Seongnam opened up a 7pt gap with that victory last night and they are in danger of slipping into a three-way relegation battle. Incheon, of course, are no strangers to relegation battles and know that any positive result today not only allows them to leapfrog Jeju but could see them climb to 10th.

Prediction : Score Draw : Gyeongnam 1 Incheon 1

Can Luc continue his goalscoring form against Incheon?

The other match to be played on Saturday is everyone’s favourite “other” team Daegu vs nobody’s favourite “other” team Seoul. Daegu drew 2-2 at home with Gangwon last weekend as a 90th minute Ryu Jae-moon equalizer saved the home side’s blushes and kept them 4pts clear of Sangju in 4th place. They are undefeated in their last five league matches although it was Seoul who were the last team to defeat them in the league. They haven’t lost a domestic match in their new stadium and in fact only Sanfreece Hiroshima managed to defeat them in the Asian Champions League as both Melbourne Victory and Guangzhou Evergrande lost. In FC Seoul though they face a tough challenge to keep that record intact, not that Seoul are a particularly good team but they have big games players in Osmar, Persic and Park Chu-young and look a totally different side from the one that stumbled towards relegation last year. They destroyed Bluewings in the Supermatch last weekend and come into the match full of confidence and swagger. This game could really go either way and should be unmissable for the neutrals out there.

Prediction : Score Draw : Daegu 2 Seoul 2

Another sell out at Dague Bank Park.
